AEW Dynamite Winners & Losers
The greatest main event in the three-year history of AEW Dynamite was advertised for this week’s episode: CM Punk vs Jon Moxley to unify the AEW World Championship. A fantasy trios match and a technical masterclass completed the schedule.
Strong reports that wrestlers were at each other’s throats backstage provided an additional element of drama on top of that. Whether the reports are genuine or not remains to be seen, but the broadcast had a powerful and palpable energy.
The All Out PPV is less than two weeks away, and AEW provided some very exciting surprises. Here are the winners and losers for the AEW Dynamite episode on August 24.
Dax Harwood seems to be adamant about continuing to be considered for wrestler of the year. His first match was a brutally rough brawl with Jay Lethal. Dax held the upper hand for much of the first phase of the contest thanks to vicious German suplexes and ferocious chop exchanges.
In response, Jay Lethal deftly attacked Harwood’s legs, positioning himself for the Figure-Four Leg Lock. Dax was able to access the ropes, proving that it was successful—if only for a time. Lethal nearly ended up in a Sharpshooter when he tried the lock once more.
Harwood’s superb mat wrestling performance and countermeasures resulted in a slingshot Liger Bomb for him and a very narrow near fall. When Dax locked in the Sharpshooter, it appeared like he would prevail, but Sanjay Dutt’s distraction caused him to release the hold.
